Applied Arts

Applied Painting
The module in Applied Painting is for students who specialise in the synthesis of painting and architecture, i.e. the techniques of the mural and monumental painting (fresco, mosaic, stained glass, tapestry).

Applied Sculpture
Applied Sculpture has three fields of study: sculpture in space (which, both in concept and form, makes an integral part of architecture of urban and free spaces), memorial sculpture (used to commemorate historical events and personalities, from the simplest sculptural forms to more complex memorial and spatial projects) and small plastics and medal design (medals, plaques, coins, jewellery, souvenirs and other utility items). The teaching process includes conceptual designs, studies, project documentation and realisation in the material.

Ceramics
The module in Ceramics covers all three areas of ceramics art: unique (sculptural) ceramics, ceramic pottery (wheel thrown ceramics) and ceramic design. The basic goal of the program is to prepare students both in crafts, technological and creative sense. The largest, practical part of the curriculum takes place in workshops and one segment of the subject Ceramics design is held in ceramics industries.

Stage Costume
The subjects in this module prepare students for the design of stage costumes for all media (theatre, film and television), and enable them to learn how to manage the realisation of their projects and follow all their phases, to do research work, and to develop their skills both in the field of construction and reconstruction of costumes, their elements and complete appearance.

Scenography
The module provides competencies for expert and creative jobs in the field of scenography, i.e. scenography for theatre (proscenium stage), as well as for alternative stage spaces, scenography for the film (choice, adaptation and construction of objects) and all types of television projects.

Contemporary Clothing
The module offers future costume designers the possibility to master modern design of unique and serial clothes, shoes and accessories through art and technical and technological content. Students also study methods of industrial production so as to be able to realise projects on the highest professional and aesthetic level.

Graphics and Books
In this module, students acquire professional skills in different forms of applied graphics: illustration, graphics, types of letters and book design. Classes are individual and take place at the Faculty, in workshops for graphics, handprint and typography, offset printing, screen printing, and photography using computer equipment.

Photography
The module prepares students to master the creation of photography as a form of artistic expression. The final results of photographic tasks are included in the graphic design of books, magazines, posters and advertising graphics. This program introduces students to technological principles applied in creating a photograph and creative problems involved in the process. They also master the procedures used to produce different visual effects. Classes take place in the Photographic Studio, which includes the laboratory and computers.

Animation
Students learn to independently articulate their auteur animated (“picture-sound-movement”) project based on narrative template and techniques of traditional animation with the help of a computer. Subject Animation attempts to inspire and invigorate students’ visual concepts conceived in subjects related to painting, drawing and graphics. Students learn about basics of media, watch the most significant films from the history of animation and have practical exercises in kinematics, gaining knowledge and skills needed to make an illusion of movement of objects, different species of live beings, atmospheric phenomena and visual effects.

Design

Graphic Design
The goal of the module in Graphic design is to develop professional skills for functional aesthetic design in the field of graphic design, which includes: total design, visual and corporate identity, spatial graphics, package design, advertising, poster and letter design for everyday professional, public and personal use. In the final year, students have projects in vocational subjects – Graphic communication, Poster and Spatial graphics.

Industrial Design
This module covers a very wide field of industrial production, from consumer products, via tools, devices and instruments, to high-quality equipment and means of transport, used to create a contemporary, industrially realised artificial world. The goals of this program are to develop and apply skills for individual research and functional aesthetic design of three-dimensional forms of serial industrial products with different levels of complexity, intended for everyday professional, public or personal use.

Design of Interiors and Furniture
The module enables professional and creative design of individual residential buildings, holiday homes, flats and interiors with different functional content, adaptations, reconstructions and remodelling of existing buildings or space, urban design, street and city landscape, areas around and between objects, street decoration, shop signs, advertisement boards and the like, design of unique and industrial furniture, reconstructions and revitalisation of period interiors and furniture.

Textile Design
Within the module in Textile Design, students gain knowledge, skills and experiences in the design of painted, printed and woven textiles for all purposes, as well as tapestries. The basic goal is to stimulate individual research in the work process, from initial sketches to completed tasks. The rich tradition and contemporary achievements in the art of textile, new technologies of production, the market and modern trends in art are the main determinants of the programme. Though synchronised practice in design studios and workshops students can learn and master all technical-technological elements of painted, printed and woven textile and tapestry and explore their own creative possibilities and their implications in conceptual designs.

Conservation and Restoration

The programme is based on the fact that contemporary conservation and restoration have become a symbiosis of art and science. The increasing involvement of science in the conservatory practice has resulted from the need to use exact methods for detection and elimination of the causes of all destructive processes and the causes of deterioration of works of art and to find reliable methods for their recovery. That is why this programme is interdisciplinary in its nature and requires a high level of visual and general culture.

Conservation and Restoration of Paintings and Artwork on Paper
The module enables students to work on the conservation of easel paintings on canvas and wood, mural paintings and mosaics, as well as artwork on paper.

Conservation and Restoration of Sculptures and Archaeological Artefacts
The module enables students to work on conservation of sculptures and archaeological artefacts made from different materials.
