Acting

The aim of this programme is to prepare students for acting in theatre, on film, television and radio. Besides Acting, which is the main subject, the curriculum includes professional-artistic subjects dealing with voice, speech, movement and dance, as well as theoretical subjects from the fields of dramatic art and humanistic sciences. Teaching methodology includes group tutoring, individual work, independent work, project and theoretical teaching.

Drama and Audiovisual Arts

Theatre and Radio Directing
Besides two main subjects, Theatre Directing and Radio Directing, the module include compulsory and elective subjects from narrower fields of art, acting skills, dramaturgy, the art of film, television and production, as well as theoretical subjects. Teaching methodology includes lectures, exercises, the realisation of practical tasks and art projects, cooperation with students from other study programmes of the FDA and other faculties of art and professional institutions.

Dramaturgy
Main subjects include Theatre and Radio Dramaturgy, Film and Television Dramaturgy, Dramaturgy of Video Games and Copywriting. The module also includes compulsory and elective subjects covering narrower fields of art, theoretical subjects from the fields of dramatic and audiovisual arts, as well as general theoretical and general education subject.

Film and Television Directing
Main subjects are Film Directing, Television Directing and Documentary and Special Purpose Films, whereas the module includes both compulsory and elective subjects from the group of theoretical and art disciplines. Students gain theoretical and practical knowledge about directing, work with actors and other creative associates, specific genres and distinctive styles of certain authors, all of which enables them to create their own style.

Film and Television Production
This module focuses on knowledge from the fields of film and television, video and multimedia production and skills based on the creative role of the producer in all phases of film and television work.

Camera
Main subjects are Film Picture, Television Picture and Photographic Picture. The module includes compulsory and elective subjects from the fields of art, theoretical subjects from the fields of dramatic and audiovisual arts and social and humanistic sciences. Teaching methodology includes lectures, practical training, individual and collective exercises, seminars, workshops, demonstration teaching in film studios, laboratories and televisions, lectures given by guest lecturers and the use of electronic and communication resources.

Editing
Main subjects are Electronic Editing and Film Editing, whereas other subjects include compulsory and elective artistic and theoretical subjects from the fields of dramatic and audiovisual arts and social and humanistic sciences. Students develop knowledge and skills needed to create a successful film, television and other audio-visual content.

Sound Recording and Design
Main subjects are Sound Recording, Sound Recording for Theatre and Radio, Sound Recording for Film and TV and Music Recording. Other subjects include those from the fields of sound and music art, theoretical subjects from the fields of dramatic and audiovisual arts and the social and humanistic group of subjects. The modules include thorough research of technical standards in the fields of sound, artistic aspects of sound design and music production.

Management and Production in Theatre, Radio and Culture

This programme offers knowledge about culture, art and media systems from the fields of management and production in the defined areas. Besides general education, the nature of compulsory and elective subjects is professional-applicative, theoretical-methodological, and professional-artistic. Through lectures, projects, practical and research work, students are trained to participate in organisation and management of art productions, cultural institutions, media and other art organisations and projects.

The concept of the master programme in Drama and audiovisual arts is focused on enhancement students’ abilities to approach creatively to their future professional environment and develop artistic skills in their chosen field of audiovisual arts. Teaching methodology includes theoretical and practice-based research, workshops, consultations and independent work.

Management of Culture and Media

The MA programme Management of Culture and Media is culture has an interdisciplinary approach to the fields of the science of art, management, culturology and communicology in the field of theatre, media, culture and art.

Theory of Dramatic Arts and Media

The programme consists of three structural units: general knowledge subjects of methodological-epistemological nature, subjects which analytically introduce students to actual problems concerning theatre, film and media, simultaneously initiating theoretical preparation for the elaboration of final Master thesis and a wide spectrum of elective courses.

D O C T O R A L    S T U D I E S

Drama and Audiovisual Arts

This doctoral programme in arts includes 8 modules: Acting, Theatre Directing, Dramaturgy, Film and Television Directing, Film and Television Production, Camera, Editing and Sound Design. Compulsory common subjects are Methods of artistic-research work, Method of analysis of performing arts, Techniques of writing a theoretical paper. There are also 7 elective subjects. The studies are finalised with practical realisation and defence of an art project (play, film, television project, sound or visual installation etc), with accompanying theoretical work.

Theory of Dramatic Arts, Media and Culture

This PhD programme is structured as a three-part comparative-thematic (dramatic arts, media and culture) and methodological-instructional system (lectures, exercises and research projects). Research includes four constitutive subfields – theatre, film, radio and television, perceived as dramatic arts and as media, whilst fitted into the field of contemporary (popular) culture in the context of textual and performing practices. From the third semester, a student does intensive research work under the supervision of a professor, and then independently as an elaboration of a Doctoral thesis.

Culture and Media Management

These PhD programme aims to educate theoreticians and experts for scientific research work in the domain of culture, art and media management. Students gain knowledge in the fields of the science of art, management, culturology and communicology fitted into compulsory and elective subjects in an interdisciplinary way. The framework of the study programme consists of three subjects: Contemporary Media Management, Contemporary Theatre Management and Management in Culture and Art. It also includes a group of methodological subjects. From the second year of studies, modularity offers the possibility of specialisation and the choice of a doctoral thesis from three fields – theatre, media and culture and art.
