Music and Art in the Shaping of the European Cultural Identity

587577-EPP-1-2017-1-RS-EPPJMO-MODULE
The Jean Monnet module, led by Professor Marija Masnikosa, is focused on Music and Art which actively shape the Cultural Identity of Europe. Having positive experience with Jean Monnet Module Music Identities and European Perspective – an Interdisciplinary Approach (2014-17), this project continues with the realization of the basic idea of developing EU studies in the fields of music and arts. It is complementary with the MIDEP module, but innovative and specific enough to obtain following objectives: (1) closer integration of the University, (2) student-centered content, (3) discussions with the policymakers, (4) support of other Erasmus + activities and (5) orientation towards perception studies, in terms of offering insights not only on EU cultural identity, but also how the EU is perceived “through the eyes” of culture in a partner country neighbouring EU, like Serbia is.
The main activity of Jean Monnet Module “Music and Art in the Shaping of the European Cultural Identity” includes  teaching/lectures – in the frames of obligatory courses and summer school – to MA and PhD arts students, as well as to students from other departments (e.g. architecture, medicine etc.), to better prepare them for their future professional life.
Implementation of the project involves original and new teaching strategies and new technologies, in dealing with regional achievements in the fields of music and art, and European culture as a complex identity. Project implementation team consists of teachers from the three (out of four) faculties from the University of Arts in Belgrade, and this team functions as an integrative element of the University.

Musical identities and European perspective: an interdisciplinary approach

553391-EPP-1-2014-1-RS-EPPJMO-MODULE
The Jean Monnet Module led by Professor Mirjana Veselinović-Hofman, deals with academic studies in the field of arts, especially music and musicology that are not commonly associated with EU studies. Due to the fact that there are no EU related studies at the University of Arts in Belgrade and at the Faculty of Music, this project aims at European integration processes in the field of culture and music in order to bring this subject closer to the target group (MA and PhD students of musicology and of the musical performance at our Faculty of Music). The project aims to introduce topics of European integration in the curricula of faculties of arts, which corresponds to one of the principal objectives of the Erasmus+ programme – the sustainable development of Partner Countries in the field of higher education. Promoting excellence in teaching and research in EU studies is one of the first steps in the realisation of this project. Research of musical identities belongs to the most vibrant and provocative subjects in current musicology, and their introduction in the academic curricula and teaching, especially in the context of European integration, results in the promotion of the excellence in teaching and research.
